KCR announces RS 5 lakh Ex gratia to kin of each deceased Student

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao today announced Rs five lakh ex gratia to each of the families of students who met with watery grave in Beas river in Himachal Pradesh.

Moving a motion condoling the death of 24 students in the Beas river, the Chief Minister said in the incident, 24 students, including 18 boys and six girls, were reportedly drowned and found missing. He said he immediately rushed Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy to the spot in Himachal Pradesh along with Disaster Management Commissioner B R Meena and IPS officer Karthikeyan. “I have also spoken to Himachal Chief Minister Veerabhadra Singh and requested him to take immediate rescue operations”, the Chief Minister said.

KCR said his government also requested Defence Ministry to spare Helicopters and IAF aircraft to bring the bodies back to Hyderabad. An IAF helicopter was arranged to send the bodies from the mishap site near Kollu to Chandigarh airport. While expressing his deepest condolences to the bereaved families, the Chief Minister announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 5 lakhs to each of them.

The House observed a two-minute silence to mourn the departed students.
