Pakistan Army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani is on an official visit to Saudi Arabia, where he will hold talks on bilateral relations, especially defence and security cooperation, a military spokesman said on Tuesday.
Kayani left for Saudi Arabia last night though an official announcement was made only this morning. The powerful army chief is scheduled to meet the senior civil and military leadership of Saudi Arabia, the spokesman said.
“Discussions will be focused on bilateral relations, with emphasis on security and defence aspects,” the spokesman said.
Kayani’s visit assumes significance as it comes at a time when Pakistani lawmakers are debating recommendations for revamping ties with the US and NATO and recasting the country’s foreign policy.
