Katora houz: Attempt to restore its grandeur

Hyderabad: Archeological Survey of India (ASI) in collaboration with Dept. of Tourism and GHMC has decided to renovate and develop Katora houz as a tourist spot. It is reported that Rs. 60 lakh has been allocated for cleaning it.

It may be mentioned that during Qutub Shahi period, it was a beautiful spot in which boating was available.

During the attack of Moghal Emperor, Aurangazeb in 1687, the water contained in Katora houz was used by the residents of Golconda Fort for drinking purposes. This continued for a period of eight months. It was constructed 460 years back.

Due to the negligence of ASI, Katora houz turned into a dirty pond in which breeding of mosquitos is taking place.

It remains to be seen how these departments restore its grandeur in order to transform it into a beautiful tourist spot.
