SRINAGAR: Talib Hussain, a key witness in the sensational Kathua gangrape and murder case demanding justice allegedly subjected to ‘custodial torture’.
According to Indian Express reports, Hussain was tortured by the police in an alleged fake rape case. Hussian’s relatives confirmed Outlook had suffered head injuries at the Samba police lockup.
Supreme Court lawyer Indira Jaisingh tweeted: “Talib Hussain – who was arrested last week – has been tortured in Samba police station while on police remand, skull broken, rushed to hospital in Samba, he is a key witness in the Kathua gang rape-murder case. This is unacceptable in a democracy.”

A habeas corpus petition (produce the body) has been filed before the Supreme Court seeking an urgent hearing against the alleged torture meted out to social activist, ANI reported.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices D Y Chandrachud and Indira Banerjee will hear the plea on Wednesday.

Hussain, a prominent Gujjar activist had played a crucial role in highlighting the gangrape and murder of the eight-year-old girl from the minority Bakherwal community which had sent shockwaves across the country.
A group of eight persons including Sanji Ram, the alleged mastermind of the gut wrenching, horrendous and disgusting act, four police personnel– a head constable, a sub-inspector and two special police officers, a juvenile, and a former Indian Revenue Service officer and the son of a temple caretaker were involved in the crime.
The girl went missing on January 10 when she was grazing horses close to her home in Rasana village near Kathua district of Jammu region.
She was held captive inside a temple, drugged, tortured, raped and eventually murdered. Her body was recovered from Rassana forest on January 17.
