Kathua rape-murder case: Sonam, Farhan Richa, Renuka demand justice

MUMBAI: The horrific details of the Kathua rape and murder case has left the nation in shock. A number of B-Town actors and other celebrities have come out and demanded that justice be meted to Asifa, the 8-year-old girl who was
captive inside a ‘Devisthan’ or a temple, sedated, brutally gang-raped by six men over days and then finally murdered.

Sonam Kapoor, Richa Chadha and Farhan Akhtar, Riteish Deshmukh, Tamannaah Bhatia among others took to social media to vent their anger and grief.

Sonam Kapoor tweeted, “Ashamed appalled and disgusted by fake nationals and fake Hindus. I cannot believe this is happening in my country.”

Farhan Akhtar shared, “Imagine what goes through the mind of an 8 yr old as she is drugged, held captive, gang raped over days and then murdered. If you don’t feel her terror, you are not human. If you don’t demand Asifa get justice, you belong to nothing.”

Masaan actress Richa Chadha too took to her Twitter account and in a series of tweets, urged netizens to raise their voice in support of justice for Asifa. She shared, “Nothing justifies rape/murder of a /minor.How dare they use cow-slaughter as an EXCUSE when the act was performed in a TEMPLE?These people are FAKE HINDUS,they are a disgrace to the religion. Shame on ALL those who defend them. #MeToo @SwatiJaiHind”

Renuka Shahane too shared on social media, “The religion of the victim and the religion of the rapist should never matter! It is of no consequence! Rape is a crime against humanity!!! Appalled that some people can actually support rapists! Shocked beyond belief!”

Vir Das tweeted, “Dear politicians, I’d like to see every one of you miserable scum and your army of slimy sycophants put your parties and your bullshit aside and do something to make sure that no child ever has to face what this girl did. But you won’t. Because you don’t deserve this country.”

For those who’re uninitiated, an eight year old girl was held captive in a temple in Kathua – Jammu & Kashmir. She was repeatedly drugged, raped, and finally killed by 8 accused in the gang rape and murder case.

The barbaric incident took place in January. The victim belonged to a nomadic Muslim tribe in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. After being missing for a week, her body was found on January 17.
