Islamabad, April 14: Pakistan today said it had taken up with the Nepalese government an attack on one of its embassy officials in Kathmandu, who was shot by unidentified gunmen early this morning.
The official, an assistant counsellor in the Pakistan Embassy in Kathmandu, was “taken to the hospital and he is doing well”, Foreign Office spokesperson Tehmina Janjua told a weekly news briefing.
“We have taken up the matter with the Nepalese government,” she said in response to a question.
Mehboob Asif, who works in the visa section of the Pakistan Embassy, was hit by several bullets after two gunmen fired at him on a busy thoroughfare in Kathmandu.
Police said they were investigating the shooting and had no idea yet who was responsible.
The shooting of the Pakistani official came amid a wave of attacks in Kathmandu by unidentified assailants that has fuelled concern over public security.
