Kashmir’s historical Mughal Gardens is getting a facelift ahead of the tourist season.
In an attempt to attract a large number of tourists, the Shalimar Gardens and other Mughal Gardens in Kashmir are being given special attention by the Department of Floriculture.
The aim is to also use these gardens for recreational activity.
The director of the state floriculture department, Sunil Mishri, said the upgradation of the gardens are in progress in anticipation of an above average tourist welcoming season .
“Normally we sow the seeds in the month of November itself. In this month, we usually check the gap in fillings and the mortality of the plants. We start maintaining the gardens from this month onwards so as to give a pleasant experience to tourists,”Mishri said.
Preeti, a tourist, said: “When we came here we felt that there are not many flowers or leaves on the trees, so, possibly everywhere the restoration work is going on. We are expecting that after the work is completed it will be very beautiful and would be an attraction point for tourists. In fact, we are planning that we visit again in the month of June and see it after the restoration work gets completed.
Hundreds of gardeners are engaged to work in the Mughal Gardens, which will be officially thrown open to the public on April 14. (ANI)
