Srinagar: On the fervent appeal made by his mother, a Kashmiri youth broke ties with a militant group and returned home. Police chief Shesh Paul Vaid tweeted about the militant’s return. “Another mother’s appeal to her son to shun militancy and return home gets response. God bless the family and show path to others”, he said. A police spokesman said the youth who gave up arms belongs to south Kashmir.
It must be noted that during the past 4 months nearly one and a half dozen youth shunned militancy and returned home. During 3 months 6 youth openly joined militant groups. Those who joined militant groups include Junaid Ashraf Khan, son of the newly elected chairman of Tehreek Hurriyat Jammu & Kashmir Mohammed Ashraf Sahrai and Aligarh University research scholar Mannan Basheer Wani.
According to security agencies, Kashmiri youth are incited through social media. An official of state police told that during the past 4 months nearly one and a half dozen youth have given up arms and did Ghar wapsi’. Their identity is not disclosed due to security concerns, said general officer commanding major general BS Raju.
