Srinagar, September 18: In a fresh protests in the summer capital, one person was killed and at least 14 injured on Saturday when security forces opened fire to disperse the stone-pelting mob.
The incident took place when angry mob took out a funeral procession defying the curfew in Anantnag town of south Kashmir.
With this, the toll in the ongoing unrest in the Kashmir valley, since June 11, rose to 97.
Thousands of residents of Nathpora in Khanabal and adjoining areas in Anantnag defied curfew after the body of a 10-year-old boy, who was missing since Monday, was recovered from river Jhelum, official sources said.
The residents were carrying the body of the boy, Maroof Ahmad Nath. They raised slogans while a section of the crowd allegedly started throwing stones targeting the security forces, the sources said.
They said the security personnel first lobbed tear smoke shells and then fired shots, resulting in injuries to 15 people. One of the injured persons died later.
