New Delhi: Eminent Lawyer, Mr. Ram Jethmalani had said that Article 370 of Constitution of India which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir is the part of ‘basic structure of the constitution’.
According to the report published in The Economic Times, citing the reason for his claim, Mr. Jethmalani had said that it was incorporated in the Constitution of India based on the wishes of the then Constituent Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir.
In 2014, he also said that Article 370 is the final article and nobody can touch it. He had further said that people of Jammu and Kashmir are living under their own constitution.
Scrapping of Article 370
However, on 5th August, Central Govt. scrapped Article 370. Before the removal of the article, huge security forces were deployed in the valley to avoid any untoward incident.
Bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir
Central Govt. not only scrapped the article but also bifurcated the State into two Union Territories.
Jammu and Kashmir State bifurcated into Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory with Legislature and Ladak Union Territory without Legislature.
