Karachi: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations Maleeha Lodhi told the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) that the unresolved Jammu and Kashmir dispute is a root cause of tension and instability in the South Asia region.
During a debate, the ambassador also pointed out the delay in the implementation of the UN resolution for a plebiscite to allow the Kashmiri people to exercise their right to self- determination, reported the Dawn.
Instead the Kashmir people are suffering brutal oppression, she added.
She said that the two nations have to take urgent steps to stop the escalating of the tension in the Line of Control in Kashmir and the Working Boundary.
Referring to the cancellation of the National Security Advisors talks, Lodhi also said that the precondition for dialogue by the India is unacceptable as well as counter-productive for good relations between the nations.
She also added that there has been no positive response from India on the four-point peace initiative announced by the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during his speech in UNGA.
However, she said, Pakistan is ready to engage in a dialogue with India on all outstanding issues. (ANI)
