Srinagar: With Political scores detained in Jails, the ground reality of Kashmir Valley after the abrogation of Article 370 in the region revealed.
Curfew in the Kashmir Valley:
Reports suggest the Valley is placed under the curfew against the officials insisting the curfew lifted in the region.
The security personnel on the ground have spoken about the “curfew” and the need for “curfew passes” as placed under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and requires movement passes issued by the authorities to move under urgent reasons. However these movements passes are not easy to obtain said the sources, HT reports.
Valley under communication blackout:
Ever since 5 August, after the ruling government revoked Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir, all landline and mobile phones, including internet connectivity blackout has been imposed in the region.
Only a few parts of Srinagar has landlines restored while other places that have not witnessed any disturbances have been restored for a few hours every day.
Now local newspapers have become popular with this blackout in the region.
Even Cable television networks have been snapped at some places and people are facing difficulties in recharging their direct-to-home (DTH) services.
Business establishments status in Kashmir Valley?
Though no official restrictions have been placed on the functioning of business establishments most commercial outlets, shops except pharmacies, doctors’ clinics and small grocery stores and vegetable and fruit kiosks, are closed.
Schools and educational institutions status:
Out of the 930-odd schools present in Srinagar, only 190 schools have reopened with only 10 % attendance while the prominent privately run schools in the city remain closed.
Public transport status in the valley:
Public transport is yet to return in the region through Srinagar roads have dozens of auto-rickshaws working whereas no public transport has begun functioning in other parts of Kashmir.
Political scores detained:
Though the ruling government has declined to share official figures, multiple independent sources suggest around 2,500 and 3,000 people have been detained, including three former chief ministers, a host of political leaders, prominent citizens and businesspeople while the political detainees are under house arrest in their homes.
Casualties in Valley:
Though there is no official data, multiple sources suggest around 60 to 130 people have been injured during the protest between local residents and security forces in some areas of Srinagar.
Health care services in the region?
Government and private hospitals are functioning and pharmacies are open with the administration stating medicines worth R23.81 crore was supplied to retailers and arrangements in the region.
