Kashmir: Governor order probe in civilians killing

SRINAGAR: After security forces allegedly opened fire at a mob that thronged an encounter site killing seven civilians, Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Saturday ordered a probe into the death.

Expressing grief over the loss of lives during the anti-militancy operation in Pulwama district, Mr Malik appealed to people to stay away from sites where anti-militancy operations are in progress also directed Baseer Ahmed Khan, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, to probe into the Saturday incident.

The deaths took place in a gunfight and subsequent clashes in Valleys‘s Pulwama district, in one of the bloodiest days in the Valley’s recent history.

The gunfight erupted in Sirnoo village as security personnel surrounded the area after receiving a tip-off that militants were holed up there.

Three militants and a soldier were killed in the gunfight.
