SRINAGAR: The violent protests spread across Jammu and Kashmir over the extremely heinous incident of rape of 3-year old girl in Sumbal area of Bandipore district with people calling for strict punishment.
According to reports published in The Telegraph, the incident prompted in vociferous call for the imposition of Shariah law to be applied to perpetrators and could be stoned to death for such heinous crimes.
The entire valley observed a shutdown on Sunday and Monday with schools and business establishments remain closed.

The protesting crowd led by students, political parties and the civil society carried banners and placards that read “Save Daughters”, “Hang the Culprit”, “Justice for Victim Girl”, “Dear Daughter We are Ashamed, the Criminal is Still Alive”, “End Rape Culture” and so on.

As per the victim’s family statement in its complaint, the accused carried out the henious crime on Thursday, 9 May during the fasting month of Ramadan at the time of iftar when most of the villagers were either in mosques or at home.
The child-molester neighbour, identified as 20-year-old Tahir Ahmad of Mir, a car mechanic allegedly lured the toddler offering her candy into a nearby government school and raped her.
A medical examination has confirmed rape and the accused has been booked on rape charges and POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences).
Following the arrest, a special investigation team (SIT) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police has been formed to investigate the crime.
