Kasab wants CD of 26/11 CCTV footage

Mumbai, July 15: Mohammed Ajmal Kasab, the lone arrested terrorist in the 26/11 terror attack case, on Tuesday sought permission to get the CD of the CCTV footage of the terror attack.
Last week Kasab had said he wanted to “write a letter to Mecca”, but had no clue who he wanted to address the letter to.

“He is in solitary confinement. Strange ideas must be popping in his head. I am not even sure he understands the meaning of the word CD. He heard me oppose prosecution plea to screen the footage in court and must have picked it up. He doesn’t know what to do with his time in the cell,” said his lawyer Abbas Kazmi.

On Tuesday, six witnesses were examined by the prosecution after which the prosecution made a plea to screen the CCTV footage showing Kasab and his accomplice, Abu Ismail, in action at Badruddin Tyebji Road near CST. Kazmi had opposed the application.

Additional sessions judge ML Tahaliyani told him that his plea has been rejected earlier. Kasab then asked for the CDs of the CCTV footage of the terror attack. The judge told him that he doesn’t have any player or a television. Besides, the judge said his defence counsel had a copy of it. Kasab then just nodded and left.

The prosecution examined six witnesses who had done the inquest panchnama and carried out preliminary investigations. The witness examined included police inspector Mukhtar Shaikh, police sub-inspector Balu Bhumkar, police sub-inspector Raghunath Mahale, police officer Babsaheb Desai, police inspector Yashwant Thoravade and police sub-inspector Pravin Kuvekar. The prosecution has examined 129 witnesses so far.
