Mumbai, March 24: After receiving a certified copy of the Bombay High Court judgment in the 26/11 Mumbai terror strikes on March 18, Ajmal Kasab has written to the Supreme Court stating that he wished to challenge the HC verdict, which upheld his death sentence.
Kasab, the lone terrorist caught alive for the terror strikes, was given the certified copy of the judgment by his lawyer.
Speaking to The Indian Express, his lawyer Farhana Shah said from Mumbai: “I got the certified copy which I handed over to the jail superintendent on March 18. A day after, he shot off a letter to the apex court directly, which has to ultimately confirm the death sentence.”
Dismissing reports that Kasab, who was awarded death penalty by the sessions court, has also written to Maharashtra government seeking a lawyer be provided to him, Shah said, “He has sent a proposal to file an appeal directly to the SC. I don’t think any such letter has been sent to the state government.”
