New Delhi, April 26: Afghan president is to discuss counter-terrorism with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, two months after suicide bombers killed 17 people in Kabul, including Indian officials.
Hamid Karzai, who begins his two-day visit to New Delhi on Monday, before travelling to Bhutan for the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Summit, is said to focus on a stronger relationship with India, seen as key to regional stability.
According to Afghan presidential spokesman, Waheed Omar, the president’s visit will not focus specifically on the February 26 incident, but also on counter-terrorism matters.
India is heavily involved in reconstruction and aid efforts in Afghanistan. It has provided more than $1 billion in aid since the fall of Taliban regime in 2001.
New Delhi also offers 1,000 scholarships each year to Afghanistan, the biggest such contribution, Omar said.
