Karzai to introduce remaining cabinet nominees

Kabul, January 09: Afghan President Hamid Karzai is about to introduce his remaining cabinet nominees to Parliament, Afghan officials have said.

According to Parliament’s head of media relations, Hasib Noori, the list of candidates would be unveiled around 10 a.m. (0530 GMT) Saturday.

“It is expected that today the list will be introduced by one of Karzai’s vice-presidents,” Noori said.

He also pointed out that the new nominees will also include a proposed foreign minister, a slot that had been left vacant in the last line-up.

“It includes the foreign minister,” Noori further explained.

Last week, Afghan lawmakers rejected 17 of Karzai’s original 24-member cabinet line-up.

Afghan lawmakers will have to question the candidates before voting can take place.
