Karwan assembly constituency owns majority of masajid and unfortunately this assembly constituency also has the majority of uninhabited mosques. Similarly this assembly constituency is also infamous for most of the illegal occupations on waqf properties.
When surveyed by our special correspondent it was revealed that the constituency has atleast 29 such masajid which are uninhabited and have been closed down and the valuable land under the masajid has been illegally occupied. 12 masajid are uninhabited in Karwan Sahu, 5 in Golconda Fort, 2 in Naya Qila, 4 in military area, 3 in Alijapur, 2 in Tolichowki and one very near to the entrance of Qutub Shahi Tombs.
It must be clear that these masajid were built during Qutub Shahi, Alamgiri and Asif Jahi periods. There is one masjid which as per Waqf record is spread over 12000 sqyd but neither the masjid is out of harm’s way nor the land. There are 7 masajid in Karwan which are totally in the possession of non Muslims while 4 have been included in houses.
When talked to Islamic thinker Shaikul Jamia Maulana Mufti Khaleel Ahmed regarding the religious duty of Muslims towards Waqf properties he said Masajid are Allah’s trust, Muslims should ensure their protection and cooperate in the protection of masajid.
