New Delhi, May 23: DMK chief M Karunanidhi will be in Delhi on Monday to meet his daughter Kanimozhi, who has been jailed for her alleged involvement in the 2G spectrum allocation scam.
Karunanidhi, however, is unlikely to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi, making obvious the strains in ties between the two allies. The DMK is the third largest constituent in the UPA coalition with 18 MPs.
The same was made amply clear by the DMK yesterday also when it sent just one representative, parliamentary party chief TR Baalu to attend the UPA-II’s second anniversary dinner hosted at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s residence.
Relations between the DMK and the Congress have sunk to a new low following the arrest of Kanimozhi. The alliance of the two parties also suffered a drubbing in the recent Assembly Elections in Tamil Nadu.
Kanimozhi, meanwhile, is expected to move the Delhi High Court today for bail in the 2G case.
Kanimozhi was arrested on Friday after her bail plea was dismissed by a special CBI court. She has been named a co-accused in the 2G case by the CBI. She will be brought to court today for the daily hearing in the case.
Kanimozhi has been chargesheeted by the CBI for allegedly conspiring with former telecom minister A Raja and accepting a Rs 214-crore bribe via Kalaignar TV.
