Chennai, March 05: The Tamil Nadu government today said it would not tolerate sleazy acts of self-styled godmen while appealing to media to refrain from publishing or telecasting details of explicit material as it would spoil the young minds.
“If they (media) have any evidence of such acts of self-styled godmen, they should hand it over to the government and police to enable them to discharge their duties,” chief minister M Karunanidhi said here in a statement.
The government would not be just “watching the fun” of sleazy acts of self-styled godmen… It would not tolerate the acts of cheating common man in the name of devotion, he added.
Karunanidhi’s statement comes in the wake of publication of photographs claiming to be those of Nityananda Swami in a compromising position with a Tamil actress by some papers and magazines and telecasting of his alleged sleazy acts.
The DMK chief said publication and telecast of such explicit content was not only “unnecessary” but also might help the “evil forces” to justify their acts.
He said newspapers and TV channels might argue “a thorn can be removed by another thorn, but will it be possible to reform a man, who had consumed a lot of toddy, by giving some toddy”.
Karunanidhi said he was worried that society should not get spoilt more by these photographs. “I am appealing to you on behalf of the government to refrain from such acts,” he told a section of media which carried the photographs.
