New Delhi [India]: Karun Nair has been roped into the India’s Test squad as a replacement for Shikhar Dhawan, who fractured his thumb in the second match at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee have named batsman Karun Nair as the replacement for injured opener Shikhar Dhawan in the Indian Team,” said a BCCI release.
The 30-year-old southpaw sustained the injury while batting in the second innings when he was struck twice on the thumb by Trent Boult. He was eventually dismissed for 17.
However, Gautam Gambhir, who has been recalled into the Test squad after a two-year absence, is likely to replace Dhawan. The veteran opener earned his place following an impressive performance in the Duleep Trophy where he scored 356 runs in five innings, including four half-centuries.
Earlier in the day, India reclaimed the No.1 spot in the ICC Test rankings following their comprehensive 178 runs win in the Kolkata Test against the visiting New Zealand.
With the win, India have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match Test series with the inconsequential final Test to be played in Indore from October 8-12. (ANI)
