Dambulla, June 21: India have suffered an injury scare with opener Virender Sehwag pulling his hamstring during his team’s chase against Pakistan in Dambulla. Sehwag, in an uncharacteristic innings, consumed 32 balls for his 10 runs and was in pain during his knock, seeking the physio’s assistance and eventually relying on Suresh Raina as his runner.
He also missed the team’s practice session on Monday morning. “We are waiting for the physio’s report in the afternoon, after that the team management will take a final decision,” team manager Ranjib Biswal said. Dinesh Karthik, the wicket-keeper batsman, has been called in as cover, though a clearance from the Asian Cricket Council is still awaited.
India take on Sri Lanka in a dead rubber on June 22, before the final on June 24. Biswal, however, confirmed fast bowler Ashish Nehra had recovered completely from his back spasms. “Nehra had back spasms during the first match. But he has recovered completely and should be ready for the games against Sri Lanka.”
