Tension prevailed on Raichur border on Tuesday when the Karnataka police prevented Telangana’s Industries Minister Jupally Krishna Rao and Lok Sabha MP Jithender Reddy from visiting Girijapur to inspect an allegedly illegal irrigation project on Krishna River being constructed by Karnataka Government.
Jupally and Jithender Reddy were stopped at Shakti Nagar of Raichur district by the local police. They wanted to visit the project site along with media personnel. They entered into a heated argument with the local police officials for stopping them.
Jupally spoke to senior police officials in Bengaluru and sought permission to visit the project site. Later, he along with Jithender Reddy, conducted a detailed inspection of the project site. Speaking to media persons, he said a committee, which was constituted to review the projects has confirmed that Karnataka Government was constructing illegal projects on Krishna River.
Jupally informed that the 1170 metres Girijapally project had a capacity to store 2 TMC of water and it had 194 gates. (INN)
