Karnataka to set up Aviation Park and a University

The Karnatka Government, the only state participating in the India Aviation 2012 here, will set up an Aviation Park and if possible an Aviation University either in Bangalore or any other suitable place in the state. Addressing a press conference on the side lines of the third International India Aviation show, here, Karnataka Industries Commissioner Mr Maheswar Rao said at least a quarter of the 1000 to 1200 civil aircrafts and an undisclosed number of defense aircrafts produced in India by 2020, will originate in Karnataka. ‘We have 980 acres of Aerospace Park and 250 acres of Aviation SEZ which could accommodate aviation giants,’ he said the Karnataka government has set aside a huge ‘land bank’ for firms willing to set up aerospace units, he said. The Commissioner, who is also a member of the task force set up by the government to encourage aerospace industry in the state, said that they are in touch with HAL, BEL, TATA and other organizations for setting up the aviation park.

Talks were on with famous Aviation universities of the world for setting up the proposed university,’ Ashok Saxena, member Task Force added. Maheswar Rao said Karnataka will soon have three more airports (Hasan, Shimoga and Gulbarga) under the PPP mode in addition to the six operational airports. ‘We want make Karnataka a Global Aviation supply chain hub’ they said.
