Karnataka to promote trade with Chinese city

Bengaluru: A Karnataka trade body has signed an agreement with Sanya city to promote trade and foster tourism, yoga and integrated medicine between the southern Indian state and the Chinese city in Hainan island.

“The agreement between the Karnataka Region Economic and Trade Organisation and Sanya People Municipal Government, signed on Monday in New Delhi, allows exchange visits by their delegations,” the trade body said in a statement here on Tuesday.

The deal facilitates delegations from Sanya to visit Karnataka for a firsthand view of its traditional values of yoga, tourism and bilateral trade.

“Both cities have a lot in common, spanning a vibrant coastline to the salubrious climate and enterprising populations. We hope this initiative will spur bilateral ties between the city and the state,” said Kreto Deputy Chairperson Shaneena Sultana.

With a number of harbours, Sanya is an important port for import and export of trade with foreign countries. It is also known as the ‘South Gate of China’ to stress its importance and role in economy, politics and transportation.

Situated on the southernmost tip of Hainan province with tropical monsoon climate, Sanya has a long coastline and many natural advantages.

“Sanya is a well-known tourist resort with mountains, sea, river and city. The favourable climate is hot in summer and warm in other three seasons to attract tourists from across the country and the world over.”

As a non-profit organisation, Kreto is supported by the state government and other partners in different countries the world over and enables Karnataka-based companies to tap overseas business through its single-window contact point.
