Bengaluru: The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on Thursday felicitated Karnataka’s Additional Chief Secretary Bharath Lal Meena here on 84th birth anniversary of late former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in recognition of his singular contribution to higher education in the state.
“We have felicitated and awarded Meena with ‘Unnatha Shikshana Pravarthaka’ (higher education official) in Kalam’s memory as he spearheaded an 86-point plan to digitize higher education institutions across the state,” said IET (Bengaluru chapter) chairman Kapil Khanna.
Focused on automation and student centre initiatives, the state’s higher education department is also planning to introduce online application and admission process for undergraduate and post-graduation courses.
The IET also held Dr Abdul Kalam memorial oration on the first annual series to mark his birthday where besides Meena, Karnataka state innovation council chairman H.P. Kincha and Khanna addressed the gathering.
IET is a leading professional society for the engineering and technology community across the country, with 12,000 members and eight local networks. It focuses on energy, transport, information and communications, education and Internet of Things sectors.
