Hyderabad: The annual procession of Giarveeh Shareef of Hazrath Syedna Ghouse-e-Azam Datagir which was delayed till months due to no elephant for the rally this year, on Wednesday the Giarveeh Shareef procession was celebrated at a grand scale by availing the service of elephant ‘Sudha’ from Karnataka.
Around Rs 3 lakhs by Hazrath Ghouse-e-Azam Welfare Society was spent this year Giarveeh, where more than 10,000 Sunni Muslims participated.
According to High Court judgement the elephants were not been provided for any religious procession due to health issues. This has not only impacted the Giarveeh Shareef, but also other important processions of Bibi-ka-Alam and even the Bonalu festive.
All these processions were availing the services of zoo elephant Rajani.
“In a recent Bonalu festival of Hari Bowli Temple the procession was took up on Sudha, an elephant brought from Karnataka, after her best performance in festival, Sudha will also be engaging her services for Bibi-ka-Alam (during Moharram). Noticing the services Sunni Muslims has also spent Rs 3 Lakhs for the Giarveeh Shareef procession, which was taken out on Wednesday”

Moosa Khan further says that after the judgement was passed that elephant will not be provided for any procession this year, the Giarhveeh Shareef procession was delayed till months but later on when the Endowment Department and Minority department has provided the elephant Sudha for Bonalu and Bibi-ka-Alam, we Sunni Muslims has availed this elephant and took out the procession by spending around Rs 3 lakhs for elephant in which thousands of devotees took part, he added.
As the government is helping in festivals by funding and by providing necessary facilities, we all Sunni Muslims demand that this festival should also declare as a state festival, as it is celebrated on a grand note across the world.
We also demand that the government should provide an elephant as well as a good amount of funds for Giarveeh festival, Moosa Khan demands.
About Giarveeh Shareef
Giarveeh Shareef procession is been taking place from the past 45 years or more. It is being organised on the occasion of birth anniversary of Hazrath Syedna Ghouse-e-Azam Dastagir, a revered saint. The procession is generally attended by more than 10,000 Sunni Muslims.
On Wednesday, it starts from Chilla Mubarak, Irani Galli, and passes through Panjesha, Etebar Chowk, Kotla Alijha, Sardar Mahal and Charminar and thereafter returns from Charminar via Gulzar Houz, Machli Kaman. After the procession and celebration, the langar (food) will be offered where thousands of devotees have special food items with devotional feel.
This year the langar was offered on next day after the celebrations that was on Friday.
