Karna plea to Centre on Kudremukh iron ore company

Bangalore, April 11: Karnataka today appealed to the Centre to take a decision on the fate of Kudremukh Iron Ore Company in Chikmagalur to enable the state to expedite process of declaring the Kudremukh National Park as a Tiger Reserve.

“An urgent decision has to be taken by the concerned ministry in the Government of India as to what will be the final fate of buildings owned by Kudremukh Iron Ore Company”, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said in a letter to Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh.

Ramesh had asked Karnataka to notify the Kudremukh National Park as a Tiger Reserve under provisions of Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972.

Yeddyurappa said though Kudremukh Iron Ore Company closed its operations, the company physically exists with a skeletal staff and all its buildings and structures intact.
