Kapu community protestors set police station ablaze

Protesters from Kapu community, who are demanding inclusion of their caste into the backward class, set a police station on fire in Tuni city of Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district yesterday night.

The protestors had also burnt two coaches of Ratnachal Express yesterday, which had led to disruption in train services on the route.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu held an emergency meeting with senior officials in Vijayawada last night to discuss the stir by Kapu community members which turned violent injuring 15 police officials and 5 others.

He said a Judicial Commission had already been constituted for this purpose.

Ahead of the 2014 state elections, Naidu had promised that he will ensure OBC status to Kapus if he became chief minister.
