Kapil Sibal to inaugurate 16th appreciation course in legislative drafting

Union Law and Justice Minister Kapil Sibal will inaugurate the 16th appreciation course in legislative drafting here today in the Institute of Legislative Drafting and Research (ILDR).

The course will run up to 17-01-2014. Its purpose is to familiarize the officers of various administrative ministries/ departments with the legislative principles, practice and procedure relating to legislative proposals including drafting of principal and subordinate legislation.

Briefly, the course is aimed at minimizing the gap between various departments/ ministries in giving effect to the policies and programmes of the Government through legislation.

Meanwhile, ILDR has got the ISO 9001:2008 Certification as per the Quality Management System which is being implemented in the Institute.

This achievement coincides with the completion of 25 years of existence by ILDR. Sibal will also formally declare ISO 9001 Certification fpr ILDR.

The institute was established as a Wing of the Legislative Department in the Ministry of Law and Justice in January, 1989 with an objective to impart theoretical and practical training in Legislative Drafting to the officers of the Central/ State Governments and Union territories (UTs).

The Institute conducts basic course and appreciation course in legislative drafting every year.

The basic course in legislative drafting is of 3 months’ duration and is meant for the middle level officers of the States / UTs. Appreciation course is of 15 days’ duration for middle level officers of central ministries/ departments/attached or subordinate offices and central public sector undertakings.

The institute has so far conducted 15 appreciation courses and 25 basic courses. (ANI)
