Kanpur, March 05: Massive security arrangements have been made in the city in view of President Pratibha Patil”s visit to inaugurate the golden jubilee celebrations of IIT-Kanpur tomorrow. “We have put maximum forces.
All the places she will visit have been turned into high security pockets,” police said. Additional police personnel have been deployed since yesterday on main roads.
Some policemen from Lucknow have also been deputed in the city for the function. During her visit, a satellite ”Jugnu” developed by the institute”s students will be unveiled by the President.
The satellite will be handed over to scientists of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), who after testing it will launch it from Sriharikota. The satellite will help in gathering prior information regarding flood, drought and disaster management.
To mark the 50 glorious years of its history, IIT-Kanpur has built a ”time capsule” which will also be inaugurated. Alumni of IIT-Kanpur, settled abroad, will be joining in large numbers for the golden jubilee celebrations of the premier institute on Saturday.
