Lucknow, October 27: The Kanpur police has been asked to investigate the charge of money laundering against Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh and some others which had recently been returned by the Kolkata police.
The police station in-charge of Babupurva in Kanpur Dinesh Tripathi would investigate the case filed by Shivakant Tripathi, ADG Law and Order Brij Lal said here today.
The Kolkata police had refused to probe the case against Amar Singh and others saying that mere existence of his companies in the city was an insufficient ground for it to investigate the case and returned it back to Kanpur.
The ADG said that investigating officer would visit Kolkata and other places as per the requirement of the case.
On October 15, Tripathi had lodged an FIR against Amar Singh and others under various sections of the IPC, Prevention of Corruption Act and Prevention of Money laundering Act.
The government had later transferred the case to the Kolkata police as the majority of companies mentioned in the FIR were registered in Kolkata but the city police had refused to investigate the case.
