New Delhi: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Monday condemned the arrest of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar on sedition charges, and said that it was a ‘political conspiracy’.
In a press note, Mayawati said, “Arrest of JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar on sedition charges is a political conspiracy.”
The BSP supremo also said that defaming a reputed educational institution like JNU by terming it as ‘anti-national’ was extremely saddening and condemnable.
On February 12, Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested by the Delhi Police and was booked on charges of sedition over a protest organised in the JNU campus against the hanging of 2001 Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru. (ANI)
