Panchayat Raj Minister K Tarakarama Rao on Saturday informed the State Legislative Council that the State Government would emulate the model of drinking water project of Kamareddy in other parts of the State.
KTR said that two departments – Panchayat Raj and Municipal Administration came together to implement the Rs 240 crore CPWS project of Kamareddy which provides Godavari River water to 211 villages of Nizamabad district. He said the Kamareddy model would replicated in 25 to 26 other places in the State. While Panchayat Raj department would bring water up to towns and later on, the municipal administration department will make arrangements to supply it for drinking purpose.
Congress MLA Mohammed Ali Shabbir demanded that the government release at least Rs 50 crore for completion of pending 30 per cent of works. The minister assured that the required funds would be released soon.
Earlier, replying to a question raised by MLC Sabavath Ramulu Naik during Question Hour, the minister admitted that Tribals areas were lacking protected drinking water in the State. The total ST habitations identified in the State are 7,560. Out of them, fully covered are 4,106, partially covered as 3,140 and quality affected habitations are 314. He said that the State Government has already announced Telangana Water Grid Project to supply protected drinking water to all rural habitations, urban areas including Tribal areas. (INN)
