Kamareddy MLA gives T-shock to TDP

Hyderabad, September 28: The Telugu Desam Party has suffered another T-shock on Tuesday when its MLA decided to quit the party and join the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.

According to sources, Kamareddy MLA Gampa Govardhan will be joining the TRS by resigning from the TDP. Govardhan, a second-time MLA from Kamareddy Assembly constituency, is said to have met TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday at TRS Bhavan and discussed about his entry into the TRS. The sources say that Govardhan might announce his decision on joining the TRS in a day or two.

Govardhan’s exit from the TDP would be a major shock for the party as he would be second MLA from the Nizamabad district to resign. This would also brand the TDP as an anti-Telangana party and would also tarnish the image of TDP Telangana Forum members.

Earlier, former minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy had quit Telugu Desam and joined TRS on whose ticket he is seeking re-election from Banswada constituency to be held on October 13 by-elections.

After Pocharam, Nagarkurnool MLA Nagam Janardhan Reddy from Mahbubnagar along with Harishwar Reddy, Jogu Ramanna and Venugopala Chary have submitted their resignations from party’s primary membership and MLA posts differing with party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Telangana state.

Analysts say that with the Telangana agitation reaching its peak, the TRS is trying to lure both the TDP and Congress MLAs into its fold in order to emerge as the strong political group in the region. The Telugu Desam has 12 MLAs in the region and all of them are willing to switch their loyalties and believed to be in close touch with TRS chief and his close aides, sources said.
