Describing Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse as independent India’s first terrorist the actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan at an election rally for his party candidate S Mohanraj in Aravakurichi assembly constituency said the first terrorist post India’s independence is a Hindu. His name is Nathuram Godse. He was quoted as saying, “I am not saying this because many Muslims are here. I’m saying this in front of Gandhi’s statue. The first terrorist post India’s independence is a Hindu. His name is Nathuram Godse.”
Haasan’s comment drew mixed response while few declared it based on reality and a bold remark, Bharatya Janata Party (BJP), on the other hand, moved to Election Commission over the issue.
Strongly reacting over the statement Tamil Nadu Minister KT Rajenthra Bhalaji said Mr Haasan’s tongue should be cut off for making the remark. PTI quoted him as saying, “His tongue should be cut off..he has said (free India’s first extremist) was a Hindu. Extremism has no religion, neither Hindu nor Muslim nor Christian.”
ANHAD chief Shabnam Hashmi asked why BJP is so angry when Kamal Haasan has given statement against killer of Mahatma Gandhi.
Kamal Haasan is the president of Makkal Needhi Maiam.
