Kalki gets ready for ‘Hamlet’

Mumbai, June 07: Kalki Koechlin may be bagging movies left, right and centre. However, she isn’t willing to leave her love for theatre aside. Even as she is getting more and more occupied with the world of films, there is theatre which is continuing to have a special place in her heart. No wonder, she can be caught performing in a play.

“I am enjoying myself doing English theatre in addition to the films that I have in hand”, confirms Kalki who saw instant fame coming her way after a terrific act in DEV D early last year, “I have been doing this play called ‘The Skeleton Woman’ which was also co-written by me. It has been doing really very well.”

In future too, Kalki has her eyes set on showing hir histrionics on stage, especially with a class like ‘Hamlet’ down the line.

“That’s right; I would be joining this play which is already in the running. It is called ‘Hamlet – The Clown Prince’. I would be enacting the role of Ophelia”, she says with a smile, “I consider myself lucky that despite movies happening to me, I am still managing to get time out for theatre.”

It can be seen that she is balancing it all quite well by mixing offbeat and commercial cinema. However, many girls of her age would have gone into a signing spree considering the tempting offers being thrown around. What makes her go relatively slower?

“Yes, it is great if I am getting wonderful offers but I have to fall in love with the script first. It does take time after all to find something which truly inspires me. Till that doesn’t happen, I don’t feel the need to pick up anything and everything”, she shares her point of view, “It is important for me to do different kind of work. I like to be myself.”
