New Delhi, May 08: Wholesale prices of kalaunji and jeera surged up to Rs 300 per quintal in the national capital today on fresh buying support from retailers and stockists against tight stocks. Increased demand from local parties and higher advices from producing belts also supported the rise in prices.
Kalaunji prices rose by Rs 100 to conclude at Rs 8,600-9,500 per quintal. Jeera common and jeera best quality also increased up to Rs 300 to settle at Rs 12,200-12,500 and Rs 13,600-14,200 per quintal, respectively.
Traders attributed a sharp upsurge in kalaunji and jeera prices to good demand from retailers amid fall in supplies from producing belts. Following are today”s quotations (in Rs per quintal): Ajwain 10,000-15,000, black pepper common 16,800-16,900, betelnut (kg) 85-105, cardamom brown -Jhundiwali (kg) 520-525 and cardamom brown -Kanchicut (kg) 545-580.
Cardamom small (kg): Chitridar 980-1,075, cardamom (colour robin) 1,100-1,120, cardamom bold 1,120-1,140, cardamom extra (bold) 1,160-1,190 and cloves (kg) 265-315.
