Kalam was nationalist despite being Muslim: Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma

New Delhi: During an interview, Union Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma while justifying the decision to rename Aurangzeb Road to A.P.J. Abdul Kalam said that Mr. Kalam was nationalist despite being Muslim.

He said that he don’t think Aurangzeb was an ideal person and source of inspiration can be inspirational. Aurangzeb Road was renamed after a great person who despite being Muslim was a nationalist and a humanist, A P J Abdul Kalam.

However when asked about his remark on Thursday, he said “I only said Kalam was a rashtravadi Muslim.”
