Kalam prefers his hairstyle over ceremonial headgear

Bhopal, November 15: Former President APJ Abdul Kalam today preferred his “trademark hairstyle” over the ceremonial headgear at the convocation ceremony of an educational institute here.

He, however, showed no reservation wearing the convocation gown.

“Kalam did not wear the headgear on the plea that his trademark hairstyle is already a substitute for it. But he had no reservation wearing the convocation gown,” A N Singh, Chairman of the Board of Governors at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) told PTI.

Others present on the dais wore the traditional convocation gown and headgear during the 7th convocation ceremony of MANIT while Kalam was seen wearing only the gown.

Recently, Union Minister for Environment and Forest Jairam Ramesh had caused the ruffle by not wearing the ceremonial gown and headgear during the convocation ceremony of Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM) terming it as a colonial practice.
