New Delhi, January 20: Voicing concern about the rapid increase in e-waste in the country, former President APJ Abdul Kalam today advocated the need for safe recycling of these substances which are hazardous to health and for setting up of more plants.
“E-waste in our country is being increased by 10 per cent every year and only five per cent of urban e-waste are recycled in India,” Kalam said at the inauguration of Attero Recycling in the capital.
E-waste constitutes items ranging from a wire, a battery, a plug to anything which runs an electricity that are probably not going to be used ever.
Kalam said the mode of collecting and recycling e-waste in the country are traditional which can cause harm to the collectors as it contains hazardous chemicals like lead, arsenic and mercury.
