Kabul: Recent reports of a gunfire and an explosion near a TV station in Kabul killing two people while injuring three others are reported on Tuesday.
The attack happened at Shamshad TV headquarters in Chaman-e-Huzuri in Police District 8 in the city were four gunmen barged into the station disguised in police uniforms.
The four attackers, disguised in police uniforms, threw grenades and fired guns as they entered the building, sources reported.
A security source said: “One attacker detonated his explosive vest at the first gate of the building, paving the way for the second group of gunmen to enter the facility. The Crisis Response Unit (CRU) forces arrived at the site shortly after the attack and they launched a counter-attack to eliminate the terrorists”.
Reporter Hashmat Istankzai who was in the TV station when the incident happened but managed to escape around 1 pm while the gunmen were still firing in the building.
He said, “Some of my colleagues were killed and injured. I managed to escape.”
According to the sources so far one of the attackers and one security guard were killed in the attack with three injured people. But the number of casualties is still unknown since the attackers were reportedly firing inside the building. More than 100 employees were present inside the building.
The TV Channel went off the air as soon as it was attacked by the gunmen. The Security personnel was trying to regain the control of the building.
So far no group has come forward to claim the attack.
