Kabul clashes injure three US soldiers

Kabul, September 14: The US-led International Security Assistance Force said in a statement on Wednesday that six ISAF servicemen were wounded in Taliban’s attacks on Tuesday. Three US soldiers were among those wounded, a Press TV correspondent reported.

On Wednesday, the top commander for NATO and US forces in Afghanistan said the Kabul attacks left 27 people dead.

US Marine Corps Gen. John Allen said 11 Afghan civilians, more than half of them children, and five Afghan police officers were killed after militants attacked the US Embassy and NATO headquarters in the heart of Kabul.

He added that 11 terrorists also died in the battle between Taliban militants and security forces. Seven militant were killed in the clearing operation inside the half-built building, where the assailants had been hiding near the US Embassy. Four other attackers served as bombers.

The US Ambassador to Afghanistan Ryan Crocker on Wednesday blamed the Haqqani terror network for the attacks against the American Embassy and NATO headquarters in Kabul.

The Haqqani network is an independent militant group in Afghanistan and Pakistan that is closely allied with the Taliban.

The security situation continues to deteriorate in Afghanistan with foreign and Afghan forces falling prey to Taliban militants on a near-daily basis.

The developments come as fighting between militants and foreign forces has recently intensified in the southern and eastern provinces of Afghanistan.

Insecurity continues to rise across Afghanistan despite the presence of nearly 150,000 US-led forces in the country.
