Kabul bombing: Triple blasts at funeral of protester ‘killed by police’

Kabul : Three blasts hit at a cemetery in a funeral ceremony at Khair Khana district in Kabul on Saturday, killing at least 18 people and injuring 30 more.

Nearly hundreds of people attended the funeral ceremony of Salim Ayzedyar son of Alam Ayzedyar, the deputy speaker of the Upper House of parliament. He was killed in clashes between demonstrators and police in Kabul on Friday.

Thousands of people came to streets on Friday to register their protest over the deadly terrorist attack in Kabul city on Wednesday that claimed more than 90 lives and injured more than 400 others, mostly civilians, including women and children. Police used water cannons, tear gas and opened fire at protesters who attempted to move closer to the presidential palace.

The office of President Ashraf Ghani said he condemned “the outrageous attack on mourners burying the martyred”, adding: “The country is under attack. We must be strong and united.”

The interior ministry spokesperson said that the cause of the explosions was not known, and there was no immediate claim of responsibility.
