K T Rama Rao meets US pharma cos’ officials for investments in Telangana

Hyderabad: Telangana Industries Minister K T Rama Rao, who is on a week-long tour of the US to attract investment in the state, on Friday met key executives of pharma giants like J&J, Merck and Pfizer there.

“KTR Had a great meeting with Dr Paul Stoffels, Chairman J&J, Global Pharma. Discussed medical devices pharma manufacturing, innovation and J-Labs,” a release issued by the state government said.

He met Merck’s executive vice president and president of manufacturing, Sanat Chattopadhyay, and discussed setting up a centre of excellence in Telangana, it said.

Rama Rao on Thursday met the Acting Ambassador of India in the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, wherein issues of bilateral interest to US and India and the ease of doing business in India were discussed at length.

Newly appointed Consul General of US in Hyderabad, Katherine B Hadda, had called on the Minister and apprised him of her priorities when she takes charge.

“The Minister raised the issue of student deportations in the US and stressed on the importance of positive association between both the nations,” the release said.

Boeing International president Bertrand-Marc Allen called on the Minister and discussed the current status of Boeing’s engagement in the Aerospace city in Hyderabad.

The future possibilities of collaboration, especially in skills upgradation and training, were discussed.

Rama Rao also addressed leaders from PhRMA — Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America — a group of the US’ leading innovative biopharmaceutical research companies. The meeting was attended by representatives from major companies including Pfizer, Eli Lilly, Alexion, Merck and Amgen, among others.
