JVM-P to launch indefinite hunger strike from May 1

Bokaro, April 26: Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantric-JVM) today announced an indefinite hunger strike in Ranchi from May 1 to demand a rehabilitation package for the families who either lost or would lose their dwellings in the ongoing anti-encroachment drive.

“The Arjun Munda government has failed on all fronts, and it is evident from the directions of the high court. The chief minister should resign for his failure to govern the state,” JVM-P president Babulal Marandi said during a demonstration here.

“Our party activists will go on indefinite hunger strike from May 1 to force the government to rehabilitate the families who lost their dwellings or will lose their houses following the ongoing-demolition work at various places in the state,” the former chief minister said.

Hundreds of families were displaced in Ranchi, Dhanbad, Jamshedpur and other places following the anti-encroachment drive.

“The Arjun Munda government has become insensitive to the requirement of the people. No sensitive person can order demolition of houses of the poor and drive them out to reside in the open sky,” alleged Marandi.

The administration has taken up the demolition work in the wake of the high court”s directive to implement its earlier orders between 2003 and 2006 to remove illegal encroachment on government land.

Chief Minister Arjun Munda recently assured the people that his government would bring in an ordinance to help the people from losing houses and set up an official committee to recommend a rehabilitation package for the displaced families.

BJP”s state unit president Dineshanand Goswami appealed to the Congress and the JVM-P not to politicise the issue.
