LAHORE: In a heart wrenching-incident, a 16-year-old domestic worker was brutally tortured, murdered by a Lahore-based family, leading to an outcry on social media.
According to reports on social media and on Pakistani television channels, the girl – Uzma Bibi was employed at the culprit’s house only eight-months back and was regulary subjected to brutally physical assault by them.
Earlier this week, she was first punished because she dared to just take a bite from food of owner daughter’s plate, according to accounts posted in the media. She was beaten by a sharp object on the head.
After the girl fell unconscious, the employers rather than taking her to the hospital made an attempt to resuscitate her by electrocuting her using wires at home.
However, Dunya TV reported that the girl was strangled to death and the body dumped.
The hashtag #JusticeForUzma trends on social media raising voice against the abused to underage house help. Several Twitter users even tagged Pakistan PM Imran Khan’s official Twitter account and demanded government action.
@ImranKhanPTI A young girl named Uzma has been mercilessly killed by house owner. Strict action must be taken against the women who were behind all the zulm.

This is beyond disgusting. The issue of domestic workers in South Asia is prevalent today and its sickening that they are being treated as if they are not human. #JusticeforUzma

Saw the program on 24 news. Heart wrenching. For some reason, no mention of the third lady. No mention about who made this last video of the girl. Seems the third lady is some small timer on stage or media that's y she wasn't confronted with media. Must b punished #JusticeForUzma

Our society is dying inside due to such practices. Very good initiative by Punjab government but I bet no punishment for criminals. They will buy them out. What happened to the kids poison case from Karachi? Anyone? #JusticeForUzma
