Justice Lakshmana Reddy today sought Andhra Pradesh Government to set up capital in Rayalaseema area as per “Sreebagh Pact” whose decision taken in 1937. Participating as a chief guest in a seminar conducted by Rayalaseema Rajadhani Samithi held on “Rayalaseema- right for new Capital” at Sundaraiah Vignana Kendra here, Lakshmana Reddy recalled that the Sreebagh Pact in 1937 between the leaders of Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra came to a decision to set up new capital in the Rayalaseema region. Rayalaseema regions is lagging behind in many spheres, he deplored. Since Kurnool was the capital of Andhra Pradesh before being shifted to Hyderabad in undivided AP, the government must consider the demand he said. He advised Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu to consider their demand and fulfill the dreams of Rayalaseema people. Besides setting up a High Court in Guntur, the government should also consider to set up university in Visakhapatnam, irrigation and drinking waters to Rayalaseema region from Polavaram, Srisailam and Tungabhadra, he sought. CPM Politburo Member BV Raghavulu opined that YCP being the opposition party may not help in this regard.
