Ahmedabad, August 17: For Dr Bhramarlal Joshi (Mewada), 81, marriage is welcome no matter what your age. On Tuesday, Joshi, a former lecturer in Sanskrit, tied the knot with a 61-year-old spinster, Pramodini Paranjpe.
While Dr Joshi is from Ahmedabad, Paranjpe (now Mrs Joshi) used to live with her nephew and his wife in Vadodara. Dr Joshi and Paranjpe met and married through the organisation, Bina Mulya Amulya Sewa, run by Natu and Sheela Patel.
“This is our 34th senior citizen couple and also the senior-most,” said Natu Patel. “The last person to get married through our organisation was a retired railway officer aged 73. Every person has the right to be happy. Why should senior citizens who have chosen to stay single till there children are grown up, continue to do so even after their children are settled?”
Natu and his wife, Sheela, arrange alliances for senior citizens, free of cost. Since Paranjpe was getting married for the first time in her life, the wedding took place with all the ceremonies including the ring ceremony, hasta milap, saath phera and kanya daan. Incidentally, the kanya daan in this case was done by Natu and Sheela Patel.
The marriage has the consent of families and children of both parties. Dr Joshi has six children – three boys and three girls and all married – while Paranjpe has her nephew and his wife as family. Mayor Asit Vora was also present on the occasion.
